We’re passionate about restoring whānau in Aotearoa desperately in need of a better future – whānau struggling with the effects of violence, sexual abuse, drugs, crime, poverty and other challenges.
Through our Life Restoration Courses, whānau coaching, one-on-one and group mentoring, advocacy and other initiatives – thousands of these struggling whānau have been impacted.
Since 2010, Te Whakaora Tangata has been helping some of the highest-risk and most vulnerable whānau find freedom from the intergenerational cycles of dysfunction caused by violence, abuse, and addiction.
Hearing the remarkable stories of hope and transformed lives from those we’ve journeyed with – like Rob’s story featured here – is what inspires us to continue supporting those whānau in desperate need of change.
How we help
To restore and empower our community, we first restore family relationships by addressing the root issues of past trauma
We then resource and equip parents and individuals with the tools needed to provide a safe, supportive environment for whānau to thrive.
To complete the 3-Stage cycle, we reconnect our whānau with community through mentoring and leadership development to empower them to mentor other whānau in the future.
Our flagship programme, designed to restore some of Aotearoa’s highest-risk and most vulnerable whānau to live well and give children every opportunity to reach their full potential
Our three-phase programme has been created to train and equip emerging leaders who have experienced transformation & healing through the Life Restoration Programme, supporting them to realise their goals and dreams, and step forward as leaders and role models within their community.
Mobile Delivery of our emotional healing programmes in a condensed format, adapted for the specific needs of isolated and/or under-resourced communities around New Zealand. Where invited, we develop a partnership with like-minded community organisations, providing training to equip and prepare their teams.
Full-day or two-day workshops are adapted from our Life Restoration Courses for specific community needs. The pilot for this programme was our one-day ‘Free Woman – Emotional Healing Conference’ in the Far North.

You qualify for our support if you feel there is no way out of your situation, and you’re concerned for the safety of yourself or others. Oranga Tamariki may have removed your children, you may have a court case pending, or you’re at the lowest point in your life.
